Have you logged into the PokerStars software, only to find that you can’t sit down at real money tables? Or visited Pokerstars.com and found an FBI warning in place of their website domain?
Well, here is a little information on what has happened. Following the culmination of a year long grand jury probe, PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and others have now been forced to block access to their sites for all US players.
The "shut down" to all U.S. residents occured around 1:00PM Pacific Time on April 15, 2011 after US Attorney, Preet Bharara (Manhattan), officially filed money laundering and fraud charges against the sites’ owners.
U.S. players trying to deposit funds or join a real money table will receive a message "We are sorry but, due to government regulation, deposits are not allowed in your area". As of right now, Americans can still open the sites’ poker software and click around, however, any U.S. resident attempting to sit in at a real money table will be met with a “restricted due to Government regulations” popup.
